| Description | The doctoral program in Behavioral Economics and Experimental Research (BEER) is financed by the CUSO (Conférence Universitaire de la Suisse Occidentale). The aim of the program is to offer interdisciplinary courses including elements of economics, management, psychology, and the neurosciences. The program is open to all doctoral students in the above-mentioned disciplines.
The winter school will focus on Gender Economics (Nagore Iriberri), Measurement and Elicitation Mechanisms (Jon de Quidt), and Text Analysis (Germain Gauthier). The winter school includes a series of lectures from the three aforementioned external experts. In addition, there will be interactive sessions in which the participants can directly exchange ideas and insights with both the external speakers and the organizers, as well as scientific group work.
Our guest speakers this year will be:
Prof. Jonathan de Quidt (School of Economics and Finance, Queen Mary University of London) His research interests lie in behavioral and development economics, combine experimental work and applied theory, as well as experimental methodology. In his lectures, he will focus on methodological topics such as experimenter demand effects, as well as behavioral theory in individual choice.
Prof. Nagore Iriberri (University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU) Her research focuses on behavioral game theory, experimental economics and gender economics. In her lectures, she will focus on gender topics, in particular gender and negotiation, as well as women in academia.
Prof. Germain Gauthier (Bocconi University) His work is at the intersection of economics and political science, with a focus on digital technologies and society, social media, as well as methodological developments in machine-learning with a focus on text as data. His lectures will introduce you to the most recent methodological developments in text analysis.

| Program | The winter school will start on Sunday, January 14 at 13:45 and will end on Thursday, January 18 (around noon). There will be lectures on Sunday afternoon, Monday morning and early afternoon, and Wednesday morning. Monday afternoon (after the lecture) and Wednesday afternoon will be dedicated to group work and projects. In the afternoons and early evenings, the lecturers and organizers will be available for discussions and office hours. There will also be dedicated slots for discussion of personal projects (e.g., dissertation papers) with the speakers. Thursday morning will be reserved for the presentation of the group projects developed during the week. On Tuesday the participants have the possibility to benefit from the fantastic winter sport environment in Champéry (Champéry provides direct access to the "Portes du Soleil" ski resort). All participants are strongly encouraged to bring their winter sport equipment with them for this purpose. |

| Expenses | Participations fees:
- For PhD students of the CUSO universities (Geneva, Lausanne, Neuchâtel, Fribourg and IHEID) and of the University of Bern: CHF 100 (room and meals included) Travel expenses will be reimbursed based on a second-class half-fare return Swiss rail ticket between the university to which the student is attached and the location of the activity. This is equally valid for travel undertaken in a private car.
- For PhD students outside the CUSO network: CHF 1'363 (room and meals included but travel expenses not covered)
