Prof. Urs Fischbacher will focus on social preferences and (anti)conformity. In addition, he will also include a part about the use of eye tracking in experimental research.
Prof. Berno Buechel is an expert in network economics and will present fascinating novel research in this domain.
Prof. Holger Herz will share his recent experiences with "Dynamically Optimal Sequential Experimentation".
The summer school will end with an interactive discussion on challenges of the academic job market, a topic that will become highly relevant for many PhD students after they have completed their studies.
The summer school will start on Tuesday evening (June 7) and will end on Friday at noon (June 10).
There will be lectures on Wednesday (morning and afternoon), Thursday (morning) and Friday (morning).
Thursday afternoon will be reserved for a social event that includes a short hiking tour and a fondue at a beautiful mountain lake.
Given the short duration of the summer school, there will be no group projects this time. However, participants who would like to take the school for credit will have the chance to work on a personal project after the summer school. The organizers will grade this project.
The summer school is open to all PhD students in economics, management, psychology and the neuro-sciences.
It will take place in Kandersteg (canton of Bern).
Participants will be hosted at:
For students of the CUSO universities (Geneva, Lausanne, Neuchâtel, Fribourg and IHEID) and of the University of Bern, accommodation and meals are covered by the CUSO. Travel expenses will be reimbursed based on a second-class half-fare return Swiss rail ticket between the university to which the student is attached and the location of the activity. This is equally valid for travel undertaken in a private car.
Students coming from universities outside the CUSO network are also welcome to the summer school. The fees for accommodation and meals (including 3 nights in a double-room, breakfast, lunch, dinner and coffee breaks) amount to CHF 757.
